Jeremy Faust
Jeremy Faust (B.A. Williams College, M.A. Music Theory and Composition U.C. Davis, M.S. Mount Sinai School of Medicine in Biomedical Science) is co-founder and Executive Director of IOCSF. He is also assistant conductor for the Canticum Novum Singers in New York City. Last year, Jeremy served as assistant conductor for the Mendocino Opera Fresca production of Carmen. As a singer Jeremy sang with the Dessoff Choirs of New York City (performing under Vladimir Ashkenazy and the NHK Orchestra of Japan at Carnegie Hall) and the American Symphony Orchestra under Leon Botsein.
Before conducting IOCSF, Jeremy held conducting positions at the College Light Opera Company, the U.C. Davis University and Chamber Choruses (assistant under Jeffrey Thomas), the Williams Concert and Chamber Choirs (assistant under Brad Wells), and the Williams Student Symphony. In 2005 he prepared the U.C. Davis University Chorus for its performance of Terry Riley’s Sun Rings with the Kronos Quartet at the Mondavi Center for the performing Arts. As a composer and arranger, his works have been performed by the Empyrean Ensemble, the Arriana String Quartet, the Upbeat! New Music Festival, the U.C. Davis Chamber Choir (New York: Night, a collaboration with new texts by Philip Littell), numerous other choral ensembles, and at least one Chanticleer rehearsal. His second collaboration with Littell, "Parvus Sum" was commissioned by the San Francisco Boys Chorus for the 60th Anniversary Gala at the San Francisco Opera House in June 2008. His composition teachers have included Pablo Ortiz, David Kechley, Aaron Jay Kernis, and Samuel Adler. Other miscellaneous projects include preparing rehearsal arrangements for Michael Morgan and Fredericka Von Stade (for the Oakland East Bay Symphony Orchestra), writing vocal arrangements for NBC's Today Show and Clash of the Choirs, and composing two award-winning scores for independent motion pictures.
His favorite pieces are Stravinsky’s Les Noces, Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder, Ravel’s Tombeau de Couperin, any number of Bach’s early cantatas, certain Strauss Lieder, and Eminem’s “If I Had”. Following a two year study of cell-to-cell HIV infectivity at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, he remains at Sinai as a full time medical student. He studies choral conducting with Harold Rosenbaum and studied orchestral conducting at the Bard Conservatory of Music’s Summer Institute. His favorite hobby is sleeping on the United Airlines NYC-SFO nonstop premium service flight.
