Freshly Squeezed

New Music. New Voices. Every Season.

IOCSF champions living composers with an annual stream of premieres β€” from short debuts to major anniversary commissions.

How the Cycle Works

The International Orange Chorale of San Francisco (IOCSF) is proud to champion today’s composers and the choral music of tomorrow.

Through our Freshly Squeezed program, we’re reimagining what it means to nurture and celebrate new works for voices β€” and to share them with you every year.

How It Works

Every season, IOCSF premieres brand-new music by living composers β€” from emerging voices to established names shaping the future of choral sound. Our five-year cycle ensures a steady stream of creativity, inspiration, and discovery.

🟠 The First Press

  • Open call for short, unperformed works (3–5 minutes).
One winning composition is selected to premiere on IOCSF’s spring concert, with an award and guidance from our music committee.
Submissions open June 2026 for Spring 2027.

🍊 In the Mix β€” Composer in Residence

A year-long collaboration with an invited composer, including:

  • Performance of an existing work on our fall program

  • A new commissioned work (5–7 minutes, up to one instrument) for the spring program

  • Rehearsal visits and creative exchange with IOCSF singers
Submissions open June 2027 for premiere Spring 2028.

🍹 The Full Pour β€” Major Anniversary Commission

Every fifth season, IOCSF commissions a large-scale 15–20 minute work for choir and chamber ensemble β€” marking a milestone in our ongoing Freshly Squeezed journey.

Together, these three phases form a rotating cycle of premieres and commissions:

πŸ’¬ Audience Favorite

At every IOCSF concert, audiences vote for their favorite new piece.
The winning composer is invited to select another of their works - perhaps an unpublished gem or one that deserves a fresh recording - for us to perform in a future season.
